Dhaka’s Extreme Earthquake Vulnerability Exposed by 5.7-Magnitude Madhabdi Quake
A 5.7-magnitude quake near Dhaka\’s seismic centre is being called a wake-up call, given the city\’s extreme vulnerability. A RAJUK study warns that a major 6.9-magnitude quake along the active Madhupur fault could cause up to 1.39 million Dhaka buildings (64% of total) to collapse, far exceeding the minor damage from today’s tremor.
