Why Trump is Obsessed with ‘Owning’ Greenland
Inside Donald Trump’s “psychological” push for Greenland. From mocking dog sleds to asserting American dominance in the Arctic.
WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a controversial aid organization backed by the United States and Israel, has completed its six-month emergency mission and is winding down operations in the Palestinian territory.
The GHF was created with the strategic objective of bypassing the UN as the primary supplier of aid, operating under the umbrella of US President Donald Trump’s evolving Gaza peace plan. Its executive director, Jon Acree, declared the mission successful, citing the delivery of over 187 million meals and its ultimate political impact.
The Trump administration is crediting the GHF\’s operations for increasing political pressure on Hamas. State Department spokesperson Tommy Piggott wrote on X:
\”GHF\’s model, in which Hamas could no longer loot and profit from stealing aid, played a huge role in getting Hamas to the table and achieving a ceasefire.\”
Hamas vehemently denies these allegations and, upon the GHF\’s closure, called for international human rights organizations to hold the group accountable for the \”harm it caused to Palestinians.\”
The GHF’s unique, militarized aid model will now transition to a new, formal structure. Acree confirmed that the US-led Civil-Military Coordination Centre (CMCC), which is set up to implement the next phase of the US peace plan, would be \”adopting and expanding the model GHF piloted.\”
The model is defined by its use of US private security contractors and the location of distribution sites inside Israeli military zones. This setup allowed for aid distribution to be conducted \”without interference from the two parties,\” but it came at a catastrophic cost.
The GHF began operations on May 26, three months before a famine was declared in Gaza City, following an 11-week total blockade on aid imposed by Israel.
The UN and its partners consistently condemned the GHF\’s operations, calling the system unethical and inherently unsafe due to its military context. The UN’s human rights office recorded the killing of at least 859 Palestinians seeking food near GHF sites, mostly by Israeli military fire.
Despite the GHF\’s claimed success, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric confirmed that the shutdown would have \”no impact\” on UN operations, stating, \”we never worked with them.\” He added that while aid is now flowing more smoothly since the ceasefire took effect six weeks ago, the supply is still \”not enough to meet all the needs\” of Gaza\’s 2.1 million residents.
