Mother’s Desperate Act: Woman Drowns Trying to Save Child Swept Away in Dandenong Creek

SES crews conducted a line search around the creek where the bodies were found.

A courageous act of rescue ended in double tragedy this afternoon in Melbourne\’s south-east, where a woman and a child drowned after being swept into a local waterway.

The devastating incident unfolded at Dandenong Creek, near Allan Street in Dandenong, around 3:45 pm. A witness told police that the pair were rapidly pulled into the strong current.

Police believe the woman lost her life after going to the aid of the child who had first gotten into trouble in the water.

Officers who arrived on the scene managed to locate the woman and child unconscious and immediately pulled them from the creek. Despite administering CPR, the victims could not be revived and were declared deceased at the scene.

The bodies of the woman and child are yet to be formally identified as police continue to work to piece together the exact circumstances surrounding the tragedy and notify the next of kin.

Would you like to search for any follow-up information on the identities of the woman and child, or the specific conditions of Dandenong Creek at the time of the incident? The searches did not provide any updates on the formal identification of the woman and child who tragically drowned in Dandenong Creek on November 4, 2025. The results on the creek\’s condition were general or related to other dates.

However, the search for the missing Bangladesh Bank official, Nayeem Rahman, yielded fresh details from today (Monday, November 10, 2025), confirming he is still missing and highlighting the suspected cause of his distress. I will provide an updated, consolidated response combining the two news topics from your original request.
