Trump Confirms Deadly Christmas Airstrikes Against ISIS in Nigeria

One strike hit a field near a village in Sokoto state

Washington DC: President Donald Trump has announced that the United States military conducted a “powerful and deadly” series of strikes against Islamic State (IS) militants in northwestern Nigeria on Christmas Day.

Using his Truth Social platform, the President labeled the militants “terrorist scum” and stated that the operation was a direct response to the “vicious killing” of innocent Christians in the region.

The strikes targeted specific militant camps in Sokoto State, near the border with Niger, where a group known locally as Lakurawa has been attempting to establish a territorial foothold.

The US Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed that the precision hits were carried out in coordination with the Nigerian government. While the US administration emphasized the protection of religious freedom, Nigerian Foreign Minister Yusuf Maitama Tuggar clarified that the mission was a joint counter-terrorism operation aimed at broader regional security. He noted that the strikes had been planned for some time based on intelligence provided by the Nigerian side and emphasized that the fight against extremism is not limited to any single religion.
