Legal Firestorm Erupts as Lawmaker Sues to Strip Trump’s Name from Kennedy Center

WASHINGTON D.C. — Democratic U.S. Representative Joyce Beatty has officially filed a lawsuit to block the controversial renaming of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to the “Trump-Kennedy Center.”

The lawsuit, filed after the Center’s board—now dominated by Trump appointees—voted unanimously for the change, argues that the renaming is a violation of federal law. According to Beatty, the Center was established by Congress as a “living memorial” to the assassinated President John F. Kennedy, and any name change requires a formal Act of Congress, not a board vote.

Beatty, a statutory member of the board, alleged a “muzzling” of dissent during the decision-making process. The suit claims she was muted on the conference call when she attempted to voice her opposition to the move.

The White House has hit back, claiming President Trump saved the institution from financial ruin. White House spokesperson Liz Huston stated that Trump “stepped up” by modernizing the building and “ending divisive woke programming.”

Under the leadership of Board President Richard Grenell, the Center secured $257 million in federal funding for renovations, which the administration cites as the justification for the “Trump-Kennedy” branding.
