Rex Airline Jobs Saved as US Conglomerate Secures Takeover and Regional Routes

A major rescue deal has secured the jobs of employees at collapsed airline Regional Express (Rex) and guaranteed the continuation of vital air links across regional Australia.

Creditors, including the federal government, today voted in favor of the takeover proposal put forward by US aviation conglomerate Air T, which is now expected to take legal and operational control of the airline by mid-December.

Under the terms of the takeover, all Rex employees will keep their jobs, and the airline will continue to focus on routes serving remote and regional Australia. This outcome has been secured with the help of a $60 million loan from the federal government, which Infrastructure and Transport Minister Catherine King confirmed was conditional on maintaining essential regional connectivity.

Administrator Sam Freeman thanked all parties for their cooperation during the difficult administration period:

\”We wish to thank all of the staff who have ensured the seamless continuation of regular passenger services over the past 15 months… and the Australian government who have provided extensive support to enable this outcome.\”

The successful takeover officially closes a turbulent chapter for Rex. Flights that were launched between the capital cities—a key driver of the airline\’s financial collapse last July—will remain grounded, as the entity that ran them has been placed into liquidation. The focus moving forward is solely on serving the regional communities that form the airline’s core business.
