Woman Arrested in Case of Irene Selmes, Grandmother Found Dead in Melonba Home

A quiet community in Sydney’s northwest is one step closer to finding answers following the arrest of a woman in connection with the tragic death of local grandmother, Irene Selmes.

The 84-year-old victim was found deceased in the bedroom of her Comet St, Melonba, property on Saturday, October 4, by emergency services who responded to a Triple-0 call from a concerned family member. She was found to have sustained upper body injuries.

NSW Police, which immediately formed a special task force to investigate the incident, confirmed the arrest of a 50-year-old woman on Thursday afternoon. The woman was taken to Mount Druitt Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation.

The last time Irene Selmes was known to be alive was around 9:30 pm on Friday, October 3, when she retired to bed. It was approximately 15 hours later that the alarm was raised.

The incident deeply affected residents of the quiet suburb, with neighbors telling media in the immediate aftermath that the suspicious circumstances had left them \”concerned and desperate for answers.\”

While the arrest marks a major development in the case, police have stated that inquiries are continuing and no charges have been laid at this time.

Authorities are still urging anyone with information about the final hours of Irene Selmes to come forward and contact police.
