South African Neo-Nazi Kicked Out After Hate Protest at NSW Parliament

A South African man who participated in a brazen neo-Nazi demonstration outside the NSW Parliament earlier this month has had his visa cancelled and will be deported, marking a swift official response to the public display of hate.

Immigration Minister Tony Burke confirmed the cancellation of Matthew Gruter\’s visa this evening, stating the individual is now required to leave the country.

Gruter was part of a cohort of roughly 60 black-clad individuals affiliated with the National Socialist Network who gathered on November 8. Their protest, staged in front of the state\’s legislative building, prominently featured a large sign with the anti-Semitic message, \”abolish the Jewish lobby.\”

Minister Burke reinforced the government\’s position that the privilege of holding an Australian visa comes with clear responsibilities, stating that a \”guest\” who seeks to \”show hatred and wreck the household\” will be told \”it\’s time to go home.\”

The consequences are extending to Australian citizens involved in the protest as well.

Cooper Stephens, identified as one of the other men who took part, has been stood down from his role as a frontline rail worker. Transport for NSW confirmed the suspension while they conduct an investigation into Stephens\’ involvement in the extremist activity.

The deportation order against Gruter sends a clear message that the Australian government will use its full authority to deal with individuals promoting extremism and hatred within its borders.
