60-Year-Old Woman Winched to Safety After 8m Fall in WA Cave

GOLDFIELDS: A difficult overnight rescue mission concluded with relief this morning as a 60-year-old woman was safely pulled from a cave after a serious fall in Western Australia’s remote Goldfields.

The woman fell approximately eight metres from a ladder inside the Empress Spring cave near Lake Wells late yesterday evening. Given the extreme isolation of the location, the rescue was a high-priority, complex operation requiring specialist personnel and equipment.

Crews worked continuously through the challenging conditions of the night to access and stabilize the victim deep within the cave system.

In a dramatic final stage, the woman was winched to safety at approximately 5:30 this morning. She was immediately transferred to Laverton Hospital where she is being treated for injuries confirmed to be non-life-threatening.

The successful mission is a testament to the proficiency of the emergency services operating across the state’s vast, often inaccessible, interior.
