Chilling Meticulousness: Court Documents Reveal Bondi Terrorists’ Failed Bombing Attempt

SYDNEY : Newly unsealed court documents have revealed the harrowing extent of the planning behind the December 14 Bondi Beach terror attack. Naveed Akram, 24, and his father, Sajid Akram, 50, allegedly attempted to detonate four improvised explosive devices (IEDs) into the Hanukkah crowd before opening fire.

According to the police statement of facts released on Monday, the pair initially targeted the “Chanukah by the Sea” gathering by throwing three pipe bombs and a “tennis ball bomb” from a footbridge overlooking Archer Park. CCTV footage captured the suspects at Bondi Beach just 48 hours before the massacre, conducting what police allege was a final reconnaissance mission. On the day of the attack, they were seen leaving a rental property in Campsie carrying items wrapped in blankets—weapons and explosives that would later be used in Australia’s deadliest terror incident in modern history.
