Jewish Leaders and MPs Demand Parliamentary Recall After Arson Attack

MELBOURNE :  The firebombing of a Rabbi’s car in St Kilda East on Christmas morning has sparked a fierce political debate over Victoria’s handling of rising religious hatred.

Coming just over a week after the devastating terror attack in Bondi Beach that claimed 15 lives, this latest incident has prompted community leaders to demand more than “sympathy and talk” from the government.

“Groundhog Day of Hell” Shadow Housing Minister David Southwick has called for an immediate recall of the Victorian Parliament. “We are literally waking up every morning to a groundhog day of hell,” Southwick said. “It’s time to show some action. Bondi Beach is now soaked with Jewish blood. Is that what we are waiting for here in Victoria?”

Demand for Implementation Rabbi Gabi Kaltmann of the Ark Centre echoed the call for structural change, stating that the community is tired of rhetoric. “There’s been a lot of talk, but now we need it to be implemented,” he said, referring to long-term solutions to combat antisemitism.

Government Response Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan stated that the government is working on a “long-term” strategy to drive hate out of the state, emphasizing a “duty” to ensure Jewish families feel safe. However, with a suspect identified but still at large, the pressure for immediate legislative intervention is mounting.

Victoria Police are calling for anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the St Kilda East area between 2:00 AM and 4:00 AM to contact Crime Stoppers immediately.
