Blinded Officer Jack Hibbert Returns Home After Terror Attack

SYDNEY : Twelve days after a terror attack shattered a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, the “best of humanity” is beginning to shine through the grief.

A Visit from a Captain Probationary Constable Jack Hibbert, who was critically injured and blinded while patrolling the event, has finally returned home. The young officer, only four months into his career when the tragedy struck, received a morale-boosting visit from Sydney Roosters captain James Tedesco. Hibbert was pictured smiling at home, gifted with a signed Redcliffe Dolphins jersey—a small gesture of national gratitude for his sacrifice.

Unity in the Face of Hate NSW Premier Chris Minns issued a passionate plea for national solidarity, urging Australians to support their Jewish neighbors during a fortnight defined by “heartbreak and pain.”

“Everybody in Australia needs to wrap their arms around them and lift them up,” Minns said. “I want them to know that Australians have got their back.”

The Face of Bravery The Prime Minister also highlighted the story of Ahmed al Ahmed, a Syrian-Australian Muslim. His intervention during the attack, which involved disarming an assailant at great personal risk, has become a symbol of the cross-community bravery that prevented further loss of life.

As the nation mourns the 15 victims of the December 14 attack, the focus has shifted toward the recovery of the survivors and the implementation of new laws designed to ensure such a “massacre of innocence” never happens again.
