A Giant of the Labor Movement: Prayers Pour in for Strategist Tim Picton

The Australian political community has united in support for Tim Picton, a man described as a “much-loved father, husband, and friend,” following a devastating incident in Perth that has left him fighting for his life.

Tim Picton’s influence on the Australian political landscape is profound. He is best known as the “agitator-in-chief” behind the 2021 WA Labor campaign, which saw the Liberal party reduced to just two seats in a historic wipeout.

Served as an advisor during the Gillard government and a principal advisor to former Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews.

Most recently, he transitioned to the private sector as the Director of Corporate Strategy for mining giant Mineral Resources.

Mr. Picton is the brother of South Australian Health Minister Chris Picton. SA Premier Peter Malinauskas and WA Premier Roger Cook have both released statements expressing their heartbreak. “The whole Labor team are thinking of him and his family during this difficult time,” Premier Cook wrote.

The Picton family released a poignant statement on Sunday:

“Tim is a much-loved father, husband, brother, and son… We are focused entirely on being with him and supporting one another.”

The family also extended their thanks to the medical staff at Royal Perth Hospital for their professional care during what they described as an “incredibly difficult time.”
