Homicide Squad Deployed to Sydney Detention Facility

VILLAWOOD: The NSW Police Homicide Squad has been called to the Villawood Immigration Detention Centre after a 51-year-old man was found dead in his quarters early this morning.

The grim discovery was made just after dawn, sparking a massive emergency response at the high-security facility.

Staff at the Villawood facility alert emergency services after locating a wounded 51-year-old male.

Police from the Bankstown Police Area Command and paramedics arrive, securing the immediate vicinity.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad are formally requested to assist in the probe.

Police investigators are currently interviewing staff and other detainees who may have heard or seen anything in the hours leading up to the 6:35 AM discovery. The primary focus for detectives is the nature of the “serious wound” found on the man’s body.
