A routine call to a report of a man “behaving erratically” inside a car in Heidelberg, Melbourne, quickly devolved into a dramatic struggle, the aftermath of which has been captured on viral video.
The incident occurred about 3.45 pm on Waterdale Road. When officers approached the vehicle, police allege the man damaged an external mirror, became aggressive, and spat at an officer.
The Taser Deployment
The resulting confrontation, captured by a local resident, shows the man stumbling toward police before an officer deployed a taser, striking him in the torso.
The most shocking moment of the Heidelberg arrest footage shows the man pulling one of the taser wires out, briefly appearing to shake off the force of the 50,000-volt shock and attempting to walk away from police.
It took a second taser discharge, which hit the suspect in the shoulder, to finally bring him to the ground where Victoria Police could successfully secure the arrest.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was charged with several offenses, including one count of assaulting police and one count of criminal damage. The incident was witnessed by multiple locals in the nearby residential area.
