A serious crime spree across Western Australia was brought to an abrupt and unconventional end in Bindoon on Tuesday morning when the accused man was held down by a local father and his two sons.
Police allege the 31-year-old Brabham man’s crimes began hours earlier, about 3:30 am in south-east Perth. While a woman was reversing out of her Gosnells driveway, the suspect allegedly forced his way into her car, indecently assaulting her and making threats while holding what appeared to be a firearm.
The man allegedly drove the stolen car an hour north to Bindoon, where he dumped the vehicle, broke into a home, and stole a second car. It was this second vehicle that led to his capture.
The suspect was spotted by the homeowner\’s 10-year-old daughter allegedly interfering with the steering column of the family car just after 7 am.
Father Dean Bathurst, wearing only his SpongeBob SquarePants underwear, immediately rushed the suspect, initiating a citizen\’s arrest alongside his two sons. The trio successfully restrained the man for a challenging 30 minutes until Victoria Police could arrive from Toodyay.
