Remembering Danny Mayers: The Delltones Frontman Whose Voice and Humour Endure

The Australian music landscape has lost one of its most spirited figures with the death of Danny Mayers, the charismatic frontman of The Delltones, who passed away on October 29 at age 77.

Mayers, who died after a long battle with kidney disease, leaves behind a legacy defined by an \”extraordinary voice\” and a commitment to pure, live entertainment.

His former band paid him a moving tribute: \”Danny, your voice and your humour and sometimes feisty spirit will remain with us always. We will remember you with deep fondness.”

Mayers’ influence on the iconic harmony group was immense. He joined The Delltones for his first stint in 1982, contributing to a resurgence in the band\’s popularity.

This period was highlighted by the 1983 release of the album Bop Till You Drop, which successfully climbed into the top 20 of the national Australian charts.

Even after his final departure from the group in 2011, Mayers remained a fixture on the scene, continuing his solo work and delighting audiences with his distinctive voice and memorable showmanship.

Tributes from fans and colleagues focused less on chart success and more on his magnetic stage presence. He was universally remembered as a \”great entertainer\” who \”always delivered\” at the highest level.

One person who worked with him encapsulated his personality: \”Never a boring day with his humour and sharp wit.\”

As one tribute noted, Mayers\’ career was crucial in: \”preserving a vital strand of Australian rock and roll history.\”

Mayers is survived by his wife, Christina. Friends and family will gather for his funeral service in Queensland on Friday to say their final farewells.
