Raihan Rafi Sets Sights on Eid-ul-Fitr with Female-Led Pressure Cooker

DHAKA : Director Raihan Rafi, known for his gritty storytelling and commercial success, has officially commenced the production of his latest film, “Pressure Cooker.” Breaking away from traditional hero-centric narratives, this project is a bold, female-centric drama that aims to capture the “real-life pressures” of modern women.

The film centers on three women—played by Shobnom Bubly, Nazifa Tushi, and Maria Shanto—navigating life’s conflicts and internal struggles. By focusing on these three distinct characters, Rafi intends to showcase a spectrum of experiences that resonate with the challenges faced by women across different strata of society.

The production team has confirmed that “Pressure Cooker” is being fast-tracked for a theatrical release during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. Releasing a female-led story during the biggest movie-going season in Bangladesh is seen by critics as a strategic move to diversify the market, which is typically dominated by male-led action films.

Shobnom Bubly joined the production on Tuesday, marking her return to a Raihan Rafi set after nearly three years.

Nazifa Tushi and Maria Shanto round out the lead trio.

Strong rumors link Chanchal Chowdhury or Zahid Hasan to a significant male role, which would provide a veteran presence to the narrative.

As the cameras roll, the industry is watching closely. If “Pressure Cooker” succeeds at the box office, it could pave the way for more female-driven narratives in mainstream Bangladeshi cinema.
