World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka to Clash with Nick Kyrgios in Dubai Exhibition

DUBAI, UAE — Top-ranked women’s tennis star Aryna Sabalenka will face Australian maverick Nick Kyrgios in a high-stakes \”Battle of the Sexes\” exhibition match on December 28 in Dubai. Both players confirmed the logistics on Tuesday for the much-anticipated indoor showdown at the 17,000-seat Coca-Cola Arena.

The match pits the current women’s world number one against one of the men’s game\’s most polarizing and entertaining figures, reviving a concept made famous by Billie Jean King’s victory over Bobby Riggs in 1973.

Sabalenka, a four-time Grand Slam champion, confirmed discussions for the event earlier this year and is coming off a period of sustained dominance on the WTA Tour.

Her opponent, Nick Kyrgios, who was the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up, has seen his career largely sidelined in recent years due to injury. The exhibition will be a key step in his return to top-level competition.

\”I cannot wait to get back out on court,\” Kyrgios shared on social media. \”Honestly I’m feeling amazing. I never thought I would be back into this position, being able to travel the world, see my fans and play some amazing tennis.”

To balance the exhibition, Kyrgios will be subject to modified rules, including being allowed only one serve and hitting towards a smaller portion of the court, a format that he believes will still allow him to win easily.

Before their December 28 clash, both stars will feature in a separate New York exhibition on December 8: Sabalenka will play fellow major champion Naomi Osaka, while Kyrgios will take on Tommy Paul.

The Dubai event, officially titled \”Battle of the Sexes: The Dubai Showdown,\” is poised to be a dramatic blend of high-level tennis and guaranteed showmanship.
