Swindon Town Defends Captain Ollie Clarke Against FA Ruling
Swindon Town condemns the FA’s decision to ban captain Ollie Clarke, questioning the “balance of probabilities” used in the sexual misconduct ruling.
GOSFORD : The Central Coast Mariners have entered a new era of uncertainty following the APL’s decision to terminate Mike Charlesworth’s licence. While the league promises stability, the fallout of the failed Damon Hanlin era has already left deep scars on the club’s footballing department.
The leadership crisis, sparked by Hanlin’s unofficial takeover earlier this season, previously led to the shock departure of title-winning mentor Mark Jackson. While Warren Moon was initially brought in as an interim replacement, the club formally confirmed last week that Moon will remain head coach until the end of the 2025–26 season, providing some much-needed continuity for the playing group.
The APL’s intervention has immediate consequences for the Mariners’ roster. Labinot Haliti, who had been installed by Hanlin as a de facto football director, saw his influence curtailed on Monday.
New arrivals Nathanael Blair and Ali Auglah are expected to have their contracts honoured by the APL-controlled administration.
A proposed move for Adelaide United winger Ben Folami is no longer expected to proceed following the league’s intervention.
APL Chairman Stephen Conroy was quick to praise the Mariners’ community, noting that the club “consistently competes for on-field success” when backed by the right investment. For the Gosford faithful, the APL’s takeover represents a bittersweet moment: the end of a tumultuous ownership saga, but the beginning of a nervous wait for a new permanent owner.
For now, the club will operate under league supervision as the APL seeks a “stable long-term owner” capable of restoring the Mariners to their former glory.
