Swindon Town Defends Captain Ollie Clarke Against FA Ruling
Swindon Town condemns the FA’s decision to ban captain Ollie Clarke, questioning the “balance of probabilities” used in the sexual misconduct ruling.
While English cricket legends worry about their team\’s readiness, former Australian skipper Greg Chappell has turned the focus onto his own side, expressing concern over the continuing uncertainty surrounding Australia\’s opening batting pair just days out from the First Test.
Chappell stressed the vital nature of the role and the specific mindset required to face the new ball in Test cricket.
\”I hope the powers that be know who their first-choice opener alongside [Usman] Khawaja is,\” Chappell said. \”It\’s not a matter of picking our No.3 batsman to go and open… it wasn\’t their passion to open the batting.\”
He argued that specialists generally perform better than players \”press-ganged\” into the role, preferring that the chosen player be informed \”a week or so in advance\” to properly prepare.
The Australian squad\’s options to partner Khawaja include uncapped domestic standout Jake Weatherald and established No.3 Marnus Labuschagne, who has been considered as a makeshift opener. The final selection will likely dictate the balance of Australia’s top six.
