PERTH :  As the Australian T20 squad prepares for the upcoming World Cup in Sri Lanka and India, the medical room at Cricket Australia is finally providing some optimistic news regarding two of its most vital stars.

While Tim David’s absence from the Hobart Hurricanes is a blow to domestic fans, his Grade 2 hamstring strain is not expected to derail his international ambitions. David has become a cornerstone of Australia’s middle-order finishing, and CA’s medical team believes the five-week window before the February tournament provides enough time for a full recovery.

In a further boost to the bowling stocks, Cricket Australia has confirmed that Josh Hazlewood has officially recommenced running. Hazlewood has been sidelined with a combination of hamstring issues and Achilles soreness, two injuries that can be notoriously difficult for fast bowlers to manage.

The fact that Hazlewood is back on the grass suggests that his “load management” program is working, placing him on the same trajectory as David for a February return.

National selectors will be monitoring both players closely. Australia’s strategy in the sub-continent relies heavily on David’s ability to clear the ropes in the death overs and Hazlewood’s relentless accuracy on slower pitches.

With both players “on track,” the Australian camp can begin fine-tuning their tactical approach, though David’s lack of match play in the lead-up to the tournament will likely necessitate a rigorous warm-up schedule.
