Swindon Town Defends Captain Ollie Clarke Against FA Ruling
Swindon Town condemns the FA’s decision to ban captain Ollie Clarke, questioning the “balance of probabilities” used in the sexual misconduct ruling.
ALEXANDRA PALACE: The PDC World Darts Championship has been plunged into controversy following Joe Cullen’s stinging accusations of “cheating” against Austrian veteran Mensur Suljovic.
A Clash of Styles Cullen, the 32nd seed, was knocked out 3-1 by Suljovic in a match defined by the Austrian’s notoriously deliberate pace. Following the defeat, an incensed Cullen took to social media to vent his frustrations, labeling Suljovic’s slow-play tactics as a breach of sportsmanship.
“If that’s darts, I don’t want no part of it,” Cullen posted on X. “The old guard will say it’s part of the game but word it how you will—it’s cheating.”
Suljovic Denies Gamesmanship Suljovic, 53, defended his style immediately after the match, insisting his pace is a natural part of his rhythm rather than a tactical provocation. “I never ever do this as a provocation,” Suljovic said. “I do it only for my game. Sorry Joe… love you man.”
While the PDC does not have a “shot clock,” the rules state that deliberate slow play intended to disrupt an opponent can be considered unsportsmanlike conduct. However, officials rarely intervene unless the delay is extreme.
The Road to Littler The controversy adds a layer of psychological intrigue to the third round, as Suljovic is now scheduled to face defending champion Luke Littler. The world number one appears unfazed by the prospect, noting that he had watched the match and that Suljovic had even messaged him before the tournament began, predicting their encounter.
“Mensur, let’s have a good game,” Littler said, signaling his readiness to handle the veteran’s idiosyncratic pace.
