Swindon Town Defends Captain Ollie Clarke Against FA Ruling
Swindon Town condemns the FA’s decision to ban captain Ollie Clarke, questioning the “balance of probabilities” used in the sexual misconduct ruling.
The England camp has been dealt a pre-Ashes anxiety spike after speedster Mark Wood reported tightness in his left hamstring during the opening day of the tour match against the England Lions.
The paceman\’s stiffness aligns with what has become a worrying \”rave\” of hamstring injuries hitting fast bowlers in the lead-up to the crucial Test series, notably mirroring recent issues for Australian quicks Josh Hazlewood and Sean Abbott.
While Wood was kept off the field for the second session and is scheduled for a precautionary scan tomorrow, the ECB maintains that his output of eight overs (0-29) was always part of the planned workload management for the bowler returning from a knee injury lay-off. He is expected to return to bowling within two days.
The issue, however, reinforces the challenge facing the English selectors in managing their pace attack through five gruelling Tests, particularly with Wood\’s history of fitness problems.
Despite the injury distraction, the rest of the England attack found success, most notably Ben Stokes. The all-rounder did the majority of the damage against the Lions, dismissing four batsmen including opener Tom Haines (20) and Jordan Cox (53).
The highest scorer for the Lions was Ben McKinney (67), before he was eventually caught behind off the bowling of Josh Tongue.
The focus for the England camp now shifts entirely to the medical report on Wood’s hamstring, hoping the scan confirms the issue is minor and he remains fit for the start of The Ashes.
