DHAKA— Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a significant shift in its electoral campaign strategy, with Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman issuing a nationwide directive to halt all election-related motorcycle rallies and motorcades.
The instruction, relayed in a statement by the party’s Secretary General today, takes immediate effect across all district and metropolitan constituencies, banning a common method of campaigning seen across various districts ahead of the upcoming national election.
The policy change was prompted by a series of accidents and injuries sustained during recent campaign programmes, culminating in a fatality in Satkhira.
The incident involved an elderly man named Fazor Ali (73), who was killed on November 22 in the Badamtala Bazar area of Alipur union after being struck by a motorcycle. The bike was reportedly participating in a motorcade led by the party\’s nominated candidate for the constituency, central organisational secretary Muhaddis Abdul Khalek.
The move is seen as an attempt by the Jamaat leadership to enforce safety and responsibility among its ranks and avoid further incidents that could generate negative publicity or put the public at risk during the election period. Dr. Rahman\’s order forces local party units to reorganize their electioneering efforts using safer, non-vehicular methods.
