DHAKA: Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus today delivered a strong warning, stating that “defeated fascist forces” are actively attempting to ensure their return before the upcoming general election through various means, including what he termed “covert killings.”
In his 17-minute address, Prof. Yunus condemned the alleged violence, saying, “This covert killing initiative is one such manifestation. They have preparations for even harsher plans.”
The Chief Adviser explicitly referred to the recent attack on political leader Sharif Osman Hadi (spokesperson of Inqilab Manch and an independent candidate for Dhaka-8), assuring the nation that the government is treating the incident with “utmost seriousness.”
“Those involved have been preliminary identified. I want to assure the people of the country that no one involved in this conspiracy will be spared, wherever they may be,” he stated.
Prof. Yunus affirmed the interim government’s commitment to holding a free and fair election, stating: “I want to state clearly that this attempt by the defeated fascist terrorists will be completely thwarted. No one will be able to stop the democratic march of this country through intimidation, terrorism, or bloodshed.”
He urged the public to dismiss “propaganda or rumours” and instead unite to confront the forces trying to create instability.
The Chief Adviser credited the youth of the nation for the recent democratic shift, praising them as “unarmed, fearless young men and women” and a “formidable obstacle” to the resurgence of the old regime. He claimed the objective of the fascist forces is to “remove these obstacles from the streets before the election and re-establish their rule.”
The government, established after the July mass uprising, continues its extensive reform programme aimed at building a developed and well-governed Bangladesh.
