DHAKA — Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay officially concluded his two-day state visit to Bangladesh this morning, departing from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) with full state honors.
The Prime Minister’s flight took off for Thimphu around 8:30 am. Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain led the delegation of senior government officials seeing him off, which also included Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam. In strict adherence to state protocol, Prime Minister Tobgay was accorded a static guard of honour at the airport before his departure.
The state visit served to reaffirm the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between the two South Asian neighbors. The Bhutanese Prime Minister’s schedule was packed with high-level engagements.
The core of the visit centered on formal discussions with Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
Prime Minister Tobgay also held separate meetings with various advisers, key government officials, and political leaders, discussing avenues for further collaboration.
Crucially, the visit culminated in the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements focused on strengthening cooperation in healthcare services (specifically the appointment of health workforce) and enhancing regional internet connectivity via the trade of international internet bandwidth. The successful signing of these accords underscores the growing strategic partnership between Dhaka and Thimphu.
