KOLKATA: Celebrated Bengali singer Nachiketa Chakraborty has been hospitalized in Kolkata following a sudden cardiac event, leading to the immediate cancellation of his weekend concert in Asansol and the postponement of several upcoming dates.
The 61-year-old artist, who rose to prominence in the 1990s and is widely respected for his unique songwriting and contribution to regional music, had been in the midst of an active touring schedule when he fell ill late Saturday night.
Family members quickly admitted him to a private hospital around 2 am after he reported acute chest discomfort. Doctors confirmed a cardiac issue, and he was stabilized after an emergency procedure involving the installation of two stents.
The singer’s daughter, Dhansiri Chakraborty, assured fans that her father is recovering well. She highlighted the physical toll of his recent workload: “He was active and had performed multiple shows. When he became unwell, we took him to the hospital without delay.”
While Nachiketa had no known history of heart disease, those close to him suggested that the recent spate of back-to-back performances likely placed excessive strain on his health.
As a direct result of his hospitalization, the Asansol concert scheduled for Sunday was cancelled, and organizers have announced that all immediate future tour dates will be postponed to allow for his full recovery.
Nachiketa Chakraborty remains a powerful and familiar voice on the regional stage, and the news of his illness has prompted an immediate wave of support from fans and fellow artists.
Organizers have urged ticket holders to seek updates through official channels regarding rescheduled dates and have appealed to the public to respect the family’s privacy during this period of recuperation. The focus now is on ensuring the beloved artist’s swift and complete return to health.
