Why Rashid Polash’s Pritilata is the Most Anticipated Biopic of 2026

DHAKA : The story of Pritilata Waddedar, the first woman to lead an armed attack against British colonial rule in India, is finally reaching its cinematic conclusion. Director Rashid Polash has announced that his stalled project, “Pritilata,” featuring Pori Moni, is set for a major comeback in April 2026.

The journey of “Pritilata” has been unique in Bangladeshi cinema. In 2020, two separate production houses began working on the revolutionary’s life. While Pradip Ghosh successfully released “Bir Konnya Pritilata” in 2023, Rashid Polash’s version took a different route, facing significant delays that led some to believe the project was shelved.

However, the screenplay by Golam Rabbani and the intense character preparation by Pori Moni have kept the industry’s interest alive. The director intends for this version to be a grand-scale tribute to the hero of the Pahartali European Club raid.

“We started shooting towards the end of 2020,” Polash noted. “The Dhaka portions are already done. The remaining Chattogram segments will be shot next. We are hopeful of opening the camera again in April.”

Following the April shoot, the film will move immediately into a heavy post-production phase, including meticulous editing to match the footage shot nearly five years ago with the new segments.

Pritilata Waddedar remains a symbol of courage and sacrifice. For Pori Moni, this role represents a departure from her usual commercial ventures into a deeply historical and dramatic space. Her 2021 look—clad in a traditional saree with the determined gaze of a revolutionary—went viral, and fans are eager to see if the film can live up to that initial promise.

With the director and lead actress now in sync, 2026 looks to be the year that one of the Indian subcontinent’s greatest female icons finally receives her most awaited cinematic tribute.
