SCOTLAND : While the star-studded autumn celebrity edition—featuring the likes of Sir Stephen Fry and Kate Garraway—was a ratings juggernaut, true purists of The Traitors have been waiting for tonight’s return to anonymity.

As Series 4 launches, the shift from “famous faces” to “anonymous experts” is expected to elevate the tactical depth of the game to new heights.

Celebrity players are often mindful of their “brand” and public perception, which can sometimes lead to more cautious gameplay. The 2026 civilian cast includes a builder, a gardener, a cyber security expert, and a nursery school teacher—individuals who are there solely for the prize money and the win.

Cyber security consultant Stephen’s cold, mathematical approach to the game—calculating survival percentages between Faithfuls and Traitors—highlights a level of “game theory” that thrives when players have nothing but their wits and a blank slate.

The new contestants will be seen entering Ardross Castle in Thursday’s launch episode.

Cast member James, a 38-year-old gardener, has already been nicknamed “The Librarian” for his poker-playing past and “innate ability to read people like a book.” In a civilian environment, these hidden talents are the primary currency of the game.

With the added “Red Cloak” twist looming over the Round Table, the 2026 series is set to prove that while celebrities bring the viewers, it is the civilians who bring the true, ruthless spirit of the game.
