West Midlands : Theater-goers across the region are bracing for a season of sequins and “silly” antics as the West Midlands’ premier Pantomime Dames prepare for their annual residency. From supermarket-themed sisters to avian-inspired matrons, this year’s lineup promises a masterclass in festive comedy.

A Supermarket Showdown At the Garrick in Lichfield, audiences are being treated to a “cheap and cheerful” double act. Sam Rabone and Matt Daines are playing Aldianna and Lidleena—Cinderella’s supermarket-inspired sisters. The duo promises a high-energy performance that is anything but quiet. “You don’t want a shrinking violet,” says Aldianna. “It’s about being daft and larger than life.”

Mother Goose Returns In Hereford, Dion Davies is taking on the title role in Mother Goose. Davies emphasizes the “star quality” required for the role, noting that the Dame is essential for keeping the energy high. “The Dame is there to get them all going and give the adults something different to enjoy while the kids focus on the colors and songs,” Davies says.

The Snow Queen For those seeking a more community-focused experience, Nick Downes is bringing “Aunty Pru” to life in The Snow Queen at Broseley’s Birchmeadow Centre. Downes, a greengrocer by trade, believes the Dame’s job is to be the fool the audience expects. “It’s about making the audience feel welcome and not overwhelmed,” he explains.
